Accessibility Policy

Our commitment

This accessibility statement applies to the International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare website, located at: https://internationalforum.bmj.com/

As part of our vision of a healthier world we want to make evidence-based resources available to as many people as possible. Each year we support more than 50 million users from over 150 countries to access our websites and products.

A key part of achieving our vision is to ensure our content is accessible to everyone, both through innovative technical solutions and through jargon-free, practical and customisable evidence-based content. We believe that everyone, regardless of their abilities, should have seamless access to the information and tools we provide.

Our accessibility standard

Our website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website, and generally you should be able to:

  • Perceive all important visual information because image elements have [alt] attributes
  • Understand the purpose of interactive elements because buttons have an accessible name, and most ARIA attributes are valid and correctly applied
  • Identify links because links are distinguishable without relying on colour.

We are aware of a number of attributes of our website that do not meet the above standard and we are working to ensure that the necessary changes are made to update these elements on a regular basis:

  • Not all background and foreground colours have sufficient contrast ratio
  • Touch targets do not all have sufficient size and spacing
  • Heading elements are not all in a sequentially descending order

Third Party tools

Our ticket registration process directs users to an external platform. This external platform is not part of our main website and is managed by a third party.

  • Eventsforce / CrowdComms: We use Eventsforce for ticket registration and checkout. We use CrowdComms to deliver our Event app. While we have selected providers we believe are committed to accessibility, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of their user interface.

How we test our platforms

We are always looking to improve the accessibility of our product. Added to this ongoing maintenance, our goal is to test all of our existing websites periodically.
